Tips To Reset & Refresh Your Home Each Day
I can’t express how much I love and feel at peace when my home is tidy and clean. It brings a sense of calm over my nervous system and I just feel balanced. There are a few small things I do each morning and night to prepare for the day. Whether you have a love for keeping your home in order or not, these are quick tips that will definitely get you in the right mindset and certainly make your day/night better.
Morning
Make your bed. It immediately starts the day in the right direction. My bedroom is my place for rejuvenation and restoration. I don’t want to walk in and see the messiness of the night before when I am ready to unwind and get in bed. This task also sets the tone of the rest of your day. Truly. After I make the bed I feel this motivation to start tackling other aspects of my day. And nothing feels better than pulling down the sheets before you get in for the night.
Let the light in. Open your curtains or blinds first thing in the morning. There are studies that show getting light to your eyes first thing in the morning resets your melatonin levels and really helps your body and mind know it is time to wake up. I like to do this, then make my bed with the natural light. If I have time, I will step outside for a few minutes to soak up that light too.
Prepare for hydration. We all know that staying hydrated is essential for our overall wellbeing, but I will admit, it is very easy to walk to the kitchen and instantly go for coffee first. I am guilty of this. I make an effort to get my water intake before I start intaking caffeine. I use a 32oz Hydroflask and fill it with ice, water, and electrolytes.
Add plants to your home. We are up to 21 indoor house plants at this point and no you do not need that many, but start with a couple. Plants provide oxygen to the air and act as natural air purifiers. I love my plants and really love caring for them. I recommend pathos or snake plants to start because they are very low maintenance and need little light.
Nightly
Never go to bed with a messy kitchen. After a long day at work it can be tiresome to not only prepare dinner but clean your kitchen, do dishes and put everything away. But I would much rather clean my kitchen at night and have it done, then wake up in the morning and have to deal with all that. Honestly, sounds like hell. Take the few extra minutes each evening to get your kitchen prepared for the next day. Pack your lunch, get your coffee maker set, empty your dishwasher, wipe down your counters. I promise, it will all be worth it when you walk into your clean kitchen in the morning.
Make your couch. Yes, like you make your bed each morning, I “make” my couch. I fold all the blankets, fluff the pillows and just straighten everything out. When I walk down my stairs each morning and see my neatly refreshed couch, I smile. It really is about setting your day up for success.
Get your outfit ready for the next day. This is something I have always done, since I was little girl. I like to get my clothes ready for the next day. And I mean everything. Top, bottoms, undergarments, jewelry, and perfume. It just takes the guess work out of the morning. I think you can see a theme here. I like to have a stress free morning and have as little as possible to do.
Keep your phone out of your bedroom. This is one of the best things I’ve ever done. I keep my phone charged out of my room and just use a regular old fashion alarm clock. If you don’t want to keep your phone that far from you, then use airplane mode.
